Some sort of clamp on ball for the bucket would be really nice for backing into one location - may have to think about that.Blade Platforms – Aerial Platform Rental, Mobile Elevated Working Platform Rental in North America – scissor lift for tree trimming Wife doesn't like the ag tires tearing up the yard but if it's all frozen that shouldn't be an issue. ![]() Was thinking some sort of receiver that mounts to the 3 point hitch but think that could be as easy as bolting a ball to the drawbar. It's a tractor I used to own and sold to a neighbor when we sold off some land and didn't really have justification for keeping it. Just using the tractor would really work well I think. I was thinking I could pull the truck with the tractor when needed but that would require lots of fiddling with tow straps and coordination. The hitch directly to the tractor is a good idea I hadn't considered. I have looked at the reach plots and realize that off to the side it won't be as high. Should be high enough to get above anything bigger than about 2" dia. Guess I should have removed them before construction - they are about 12' away and the final grading guy managed to tear up the bark pretty bad. Although if I have time I have a couple that I may start at the top and remove - they are close to the new detached garage and thinking it would be good to take them out now before they get too big. The more you need to move out or sideways, the further from vertical you are, and the more height you lose. And you need to get to several parts of the tree w/o moving it if you can. To avoid branches falling on you and the lift it will need to be at some angle. BTW, in most cases a 50ft lift won't actually get you 50ft up. 4- I would borrow the tractor if you can, but does it have a standard tow hitch and ball on it? Check w/ the rental place for ball size before hand. I sat down in the bucket and for 5 minutes, considered returning it w/o cutting a thing. I hit the joy stick, it slammed 6ft to the right, I let go the joystick, and it oscillated left-right 6ft, 5ft, 4ft, etc and finally stopped. I had it fully extended up and needed to move sideways. 3- Run your self up just 10 ft and mess w/ all the controls to get a feel for how touchy they are. Having a hard time starting it up in the bucket would not be fun. 2- Have your chain saw up and running so it is fully warmed up. So having it still on the hitch would impede that function. Made sense once I realized that the legs come down to lift it, and also to level it, all automatically. 1- I thought it weird at first but it needed to be disconnected from the truck to go up. No power lines around and I have done a fair amount of tree work from the ground - I expect some will tell me how dangerous this is but I think I have a healthy respect for that. Of course an option is to hire this out but have several trees that need light work and a local place that gives a one day rate for a weekend. Just wanting to get others thoughts/suggestions on this. But if I get stuck every time I move on level ground that's a big issue. Slope is about 8' rise in 80' there but have pavement at the top so pulling would be easy. Work areas are flat but have a moderate hill to get to one spot. Of course I can load the back of the tacoma as it's traction is poor when empty - traction is my main concern. Could borrow a 4WD tractor (ag tires) and have some long cables and blocks so thinking at a minimum I should plan for that. That's good in not being soft but bad for traction. Looks like we are going to get about a week of calm, consistent below freezing weather so the ground will be frozen. Needing some tree trimming and thinking of renting a small lift. ![]()
